Psychological Recreation Space for Hospital Patients – Fisherman's Camp Theme
The space is designed as a cozy, serene retreat within a hospital, combining the therapeutic benefits of nature with the calming ambiance of a fisherman’s camp. The focus is on relaxation, mindfulness, and subtle engagement, with fishing equipment and accessories integrated throughout the room to create a peaceful, nature-inspired environment.
Layout & Atmosphere:
Walls: Soft, neutral tones like sandy beige, light blues, and pale greens, mimicking the peaceful colors of a lake or riverbank. There could be painted murals of tranquil water scenes or forests in the background. These walls might also feature framed photographs of lakes, rivers, or serene landscapes, contributing to the calming environment.
Lighting: Soft, warm lighting from hanging lanterns, perhaps in a rustic style, resembling traditional camping lanterns. There could also be strategically placed warm spotlights to mimic natural sunlight or soft, diffused LED lights to provide a gentle glow that doesn’t overwhelm the senses.
Flooring: A wooden, light-colored laminate or cork flooring would mimic the feel of a forest or lakeside camp. Perhaps there are rugs with subtle patterns, like gentle waves or leaves, to add warmth and comfort.
Key Elements:
Seating Area:
A cozy sitting area with comfortable, worn-in chairs and bean bags, resembling old fishing chairs. These are scattered around a low round table made of driftwood, which has various fishing-related books, magazines, and possibly a collection of fish replicas as conversation starters.
Throw pillows shaped like fish or made from fishing nets and other nautical-themed fabrics add texture and interest.
A hammock or swing chair hanging from the ceiling, giving patients a space to relax and perhaps feel like they’re gently swaying by the water.
Fishing Gear Integration:
Fishing rods and reels are mounted along the walls, arranged in a way that’s decorative but also accessible for use as part of relaxation exercises (like simple mindfulness with the tools).
Fishing nets could be draped over a corner or hanging from the ceiling, gently swaying as if caught in a breeze, adding an element of movement to the space.
Fishing tackle boxes could be used as side tables or storage for small items (magazines, soft toys, journals).
There may be a large fish tank (or a mock one with a calming LED light effect) featuring realistic fish models or gentle, rippling water, creating an immersive feeling of being near water.
Interactive Areas:
A mini indoor pond could be set up with shallow water and floating, non-living fishing items (like soft plastic fish or lily pads) where patients can interact with the water, using toy fishing poles to "catch" the items. This creates a playful, therapeutic activity.
Fishing-inspired art such as watercolor paintings of fish, boats, or serene river landscapes could adorn the walls.
A corner with a campfire setup (a safe, electric one) with low, flickering lights mimicking the glow of a campfire, surrounded by large, comfortable, padded chairs or stools. It evokes the feel of gathering around a campfire at a fishing spot.
Textural Details:
Fishing ropes draped across the ceiling beams or laid out along the walls.
Fishing baskets and coolers, which serve as storage for recreational materials, or as decorative features, could be spread out throughout the room.
Camp lanterns placed around the space provide soft, ambient light.
Sound & Scent:
A subtle sound system plays the gentle noises of flowing water, birdsong, or distant campfire crackles, further enhancing the peaceful atmosphere.
Scents of the outdoors, like fresh water, pine, or campfire, could be introduced via essential oils or diffusers to evoke nature’s calming presence.
Purpose:
This space encourages patients to unwind and escape the sterile feeling of the hospital environment by embracing a natural, relaxed, and therapeutic atmosphere. The fishing elements create a sense of peace, patience, and mindfulness, offering a restorative space that connects patients to the tranquil rhythms of nature. The soft textures,
